Ten on Tuesday - July 31st, 2012

Today's Ten on Tuesday was a difficult one for me to write. It isn't that I never do any good deeds... far from it. It is simply that I don't make a habit of documenting my good deeds, and I promptly forget about them.

So, here are some that I assume I've done in the past week, however I cannot vouch for what day, how many times, and how often. Today's list is about the little things.

1. Hold the door open for someone.

2. Let another car into traffic.

3. Let someone go in line ahead of me at the grocery store.

4. Recycled...

5. I bought my husband sandals. He was going to go camping in runners. And socks.

6. Brought the cats over to see our next door neighbour, who is 96 and still living on her own. She was very happy to be able to see them.

7. Forsook Boot Camp because my friend looked WAY too tired for it, and was. She barely survived the walk we went on instead ;)

8. Returned a water bottle who accidentally dropped it and didn't notice because her earphones in. (Ok, technically I saw it and grabbed it, then gave it to my husband and told him to run after her... but my hip was sore, otherwise I would have ran it to her myself. So that counts, right?)

9. Paid for the coffee of the person behind me in the drive-thru line :)

10. Premade all of the food for our camping trip - believe me it wasn't necessary, but it was great to have camping foil packs of food ready to cook in the coals while we were there as opposed to just hot dogs, and I think the husband enjoyed it too :)

Ten on Tuesday - July 24th, 2012

Today's Ten on Tuesday topic is 10 Great Things About the Farmer's Market. I've only been a couple of times, and ours is quite small, but I'll give it a shot:

1. Local, fresh produce
2. Local meats
3. Try different things - ie/Wild Boar Sausage
4. I love the atmosphere
4. Great food. I know this is kind of a redo of the top two, but I love it.
5. Great lunch. Not the same as the previous. The previous refers to food that you bring home.
6. Street musicians. I love listening to the different musicians playing there :)
7. Conscious about the food - by this I mean, vendors know exactly what is in their food - and what isn't!
8. Supporting the local economy
9. Food tastes better then that which you buy in the supermarket
10. Scheduled entertainment :)

Pin of the Week - July 19th, 2012

Aaand we're back on schedule! Sorry for the last minute rush of pins, but I was really getting tired of being behind schedule, and really, how hard is it to find an amazing pin?

Introducing: Mystique

I didn't mention anything on here about the possibility of us adopting a second cat because - quite frankly - I don't know if it would happen. It wasn't that we didn't want to adopt a second one, it was that we weren't allowed at first, and upon asking our landlords if they would reconsider, we did not know what to expect.

The whole thing came about much faster than we expected. A few weeks ago, Gilles mentioned that we should think about getting a second cat, so that Guenhwyvar had someone to keep him company while we are at work, and when we are away on weekends. I have always wanted a second cat, so I agreed wholeheartedly.

Then came our friends' wedding. When we were there I was joking with one of my friends about how Gilles decided that we needed to grow our family - just in feline form instead of human. It was a good laugh. Then the next day, she phoned me and said that her parents had a kitten that needed a home, and if it didn't find a home they would be sending it to the SPCA.

I immediately phoned our landlord and asked her permission to get a second cat, even though the rental agreement clearly stipulated ONE (1) cat. She told us that she would have to think about it. We heard back from her a week later.

After adding a few more stipulations to our rental agreement (including that we would agree to getting the furnace ducts cleaned when we moved out), the landlords agreed to let us take her in! The next day (yesterday), Mystique (Misty) joined us.

Guen did not take well her at first. He growled and hissed. Luckily he did not try to hit her or bite her, however. It took most of the evening (and some time to relax by himself), and he started to warm up. This brought him to the point he is at now - he is undecided. Sometimes he is still growling and hissing at her, especially when she tries to go in "his" areas or use "his" things. Othertimes he is happily chasing her around and being chased, and playing with her. I think this is a good sign?!

We will be keeping them separated at night and when we aren't home, until he stops showing hostility toward her, however. Hopefully that isn't for too long!

I need to focus. I need to pick my weight loss efforts back up, shake the dust that has started to accumulate off of them, and start to dig my feet in again.

There are hundreds of excuses I can think of. I've been too busy. It's too hot out. I've been doing what I can.

Remember back when I was training for the 10K, when I told myself NO excuses, I'm not going to miss a run? Well somewhere along the line that faltered. Maybe it was the transition from running back into the normal gym routine. Maybe it was the "Summer vacation" mindset. Maybe it is because I have become too blasé about the whole thing. Maybe it is a combination of all of the factors.

No matter what it is, I need to get my focus back. I promised myself that by next summer, I'll be in a bikini. I would much rather feel confident in that bikini than need the feel to hide my stomach.

I have committed to running the Heartbeat 10K in September. I want to beat my last time. To do that, I will have to (surprise, surprise), train.

Here comes the promises part. The goals. The commitments.

1. I commit to measuring my food, and counting the calories. I will return to my daily calorie journal to assist in this endeavor.

2. I commit to exercising a minimum of 3x per week, no matter my location. This can come in the form of gym, biking, rollerblading, hiking, running, (extremely) long walks, etc. I will not consider it exercise if I don't feel that it is enough to have a positive impact on my weightloss/health journey.

3. I commit to being brutally honest in my weight loss journey. I have created a "sister" blog to this one, which will become my weight loss/journey to health blog. A link has been added in the side panel of this blog so that you can all get to it.

3.1 I will provide a "workout" update at the end of every week, detailing what I have done that week.

3.2 At the end of every day (or the next day that I have internet access if I am away from home), I will provide "photo proof" of what I have eaten that day. A visual diary, if you please. This should help me make more conscious decisions before I put anything in my mouth.

3.3 At the same time I will post my actual weight as of that morning. No more 'how much I've lost'. I'll be straight up and honest about where I stand.

4. When Gilles returns to school, I will do a seven day cleanse, followed by a restricted diet program featuring a pre-planned menu for the two-month duration.

I AM going to get there. Please consider following my sister blog. Your encouraging messages will help me get there.

An entire year

As of 3:30PM today, Gilles and I have been married for an entire year. Can you believe it?

It seems like yesterday I was fussing over invitations. Fretting over thank you notes. Panicking over my dress.

It has been a crazy year, full both happy and sad points. We grew as a couple in many ways over the last year.

To my wonderful husband - I love you. May I be able to celebrate this day with you for many, many years to come.
