Stale, like bread.

Not long after I stopped blogging here, I had the urge to blog again, but in a different format. I wanted my blog to be more... real. It would mean that posts aren't scheduled, and I'm not doing daily this or featuring this or that - at least, that's the intent. I thought about 'starting over' here, but decided that that isn't what I want. I want to start fresh.

I will keep this blog up for a little while, as there is some content on here that I would like to repost onto the new blog. (Surprisingly little, but still some).

For those who would like to continue to read my blog, you can find me at: hardlymartha.blogspot.ca

I have already posted a few times. I hope to see you there.

Taking a break

You may have noticed that I've missed several of my scheduled posts recently. The reason is that my life has suddenly jumped into 5th gear. My husband and I have bought a house, and we are in the process of packing and cleaning, getting ready to move on top of all of our other commitments. As a result, the blog has taken a sort of back burner. To be fair to myself and to you, I am taking a break. I'm not shutting down the blog - just "hybernating" it, until I can return. I will be back near the end of January, after we move. Thank you for reading, and I hope to see you in a few months!

Ten on Tuesday: September 18th, 2012

Today's Ten on Tuesday is Ten things you like to do over the weekend!

Here we go!

1. Sleep in. There is nothing better than waking up in the morning fully rested, and aware that you don't actually have to get up right away.

2. Read. Yes, I'm a bookworm.

3. Watch a movie. Nothing better than kicking back and relaxing!

4. Craft. Be it sewing, knitting, cross-stitching, embroidery, drawing, painting...whatever.

5. Exercise. I can actually exercise in the morning on the weekends, when I have far more energy and feel like I can accomplish so much more.

6. Spend time with family/friends. I don't think that requires any explanation.

7. Houseclean. A dirty house bothers me, but I rarely have time to clean during the week. I use weekends as my 'catch up' time.

8. Plan. I am a planning freak, and I'm not afraid to admit it! I like to know what my plans are at least two weeks in advance.

9. Garden. The weekends are really the only time I have to get out in the garden. That said, I won't be in town this weekend so I am going to plant my tulips tonight :)

10. Get ahead. Grocery shop. Plan meals. Wash laundry. Cook freezer meals. Whatever it takes to get ahead for the next week, so that I have a little bit less to do in the evenings.

4. Spaghetti and Meatballs

Ten on Tuesday - September 4th, 2012

I can't believe it's September already. That is a mantra that has been repeating itself in my head all weekend and today. Fitting, as today's topic is Ten Things You Love About September. Here we go!

1. The leaves turning colours

2. The 'back to school' excitement in the air (especially now that I'm not one of the ones going back to school!)

3. The buzz of activity as the city wakes up after a long summer vacation.

4. The fresh produce that comes from a summer of hard work in the garden (courtesy of my mom!)

5. Thanksgiving. There's just something about that holiday - something about looking back and reflecting on everything that you are thankful for while surrounding yourself by loved ones... amazing.

6. Cooler evenings. It's still warm enough during the day that you don't need a coat, and in the evening it cools down enough that you can go for a run without getting bogged down by the heat - love it.

7. Blankets, movies, and staying home. In the summer it is go-go-go... we are rarely at home, and rarely do we sit down and enjoy some time together. In the fall things start to wind down and we are home more often, lending itself to more 'us' time.

8. Halloween is coming! Halloween is a big deal in our house. We start planning immediately following the last Halloween, but the plans start to actually come to fruition in September.

9. Christmas is coming! Can you tell that I love holidays? Nothing can beat being surrounded by loved ones.

10. Fall cleaning. I don't really spring clean - spring is a time for me that is just full. In the fall I am back in the house and see the dust that has accumulated over the summer, and every year a sort of fever comes over me - it's time to clean and nest down for the winter.

What are your favorite things about September?

Monday Treasures: September 3rd, 2012

Welcome to September!

At the beginning of Summer, I promised that there would be something new and different for Monday Treasures in the Fall, and here it is: Your weekly hug! So as of next week, Monday Treasures will be changed to be called the Weekly Hug: The Perfect Way to Start off the Week!

Of course, myself being a huge cat aficionado, what would we start with but kittens?

Ten on Tuesday: August 28th, 2012

Today's Ten on Tuesday list is a bit of a flashback, as summer comes to a close and autumn begins to show her colours. Today's subject is Ten Things to Do at the Beach.

1. Read a book!
2. Sunbathe
3. Swim!
4. Build a sandcastle
5. Listen to Music
6. Boogie board
7. Play frisbee
8. Dive off the dock
9. People watch
10. Play with pet dog

Okay, so I was straining a bit for this one. What do you do at the beach?

Tuesday, August 21, 2012

Gilles and I finally went on our annual 'just us' camping trip. It was all the luxurious nothingness it promised to be.

That doesn't sound right, does it? Let me explain.

My favorite thing about camping, just Gilles and I, is that there is no schedules, and no one to answer to. Don't want to go to the beach? So what? We won't. Don't want to play frisbee? No big deal. Don't want to get up? Go back to sleep. Don't want to go to bed? So don't! No one is forcing you to, and you don't have to worry about getting up the next day. To put it bluntly, we give ourselves these days to be absolutely and unconditionally lazy. And boy is it amazing.

We left Thursday night, packing after work and getting to the campground at about midnight. We set up our tent, pulled the coolers out of the car (it would be hot in there by the time we woke up the next morning!), and went to bed.

The only "scheduled" items the whole trip were that we had to check in by 11AM on the Friday, and that we had to check out by 12PM on the Monday. Doesn't that just sound lovely?

Here is the a quick breakdown of our holiday:

Ten on Tuesday - July 31st, 2012

Today's Ten on Tuesday was a difficult one for me to write. It isn't that I never do any good deeds... far from it. It is simply that I don't make a habit of documenting my good deeds, and I promptly forget about them.

So, here are some that I assume I've done in the past week, however I cannot vouch for what day, how many times, and how often. Today's list is about the little things.

1. Hold the door open for someone.

2. Let another car into traffic.

3. Let someone go in line ahead of me at the grocery store.

4. Recycled...

5. I bought my husband sandals. He was going to go camping in runners. And socks.

6. Brought the cats over to see our next door neighbour, who is 96 and still living on her own. She was very happy to be able to see them.

7. Forsook Boot Camp because my friend looked WAY too tired for it, and was. She barely survived the walk we went on instead ;)

8. Returned a water bottle who accidentally dropped it and didn't notice because her earphones in. (Ok, technically I saw it and grabbed it, then gave it to my husband and told him to run after her... but my hip was sore, otherwise I would have ran it to her myself. So that counts, right?)

9. Paid for the coffee of the person behind me in the drive-thru line :)

10. Premade all of the food for our camping trip - believe me it wasn't necessary, but it was great to have camping foil packs of food ready to cook in the coals while we were there as opposed to just hot dogs, and I think the husband enjoyed it too :)

Ten on Tuesday - July 24th, 2012

Today's Ten on Tuesday topic is 10 Great Things About the Farmer's Market. I've only been a couple of times, and ours is quite small, but I'll give it a shot:

1. Local, fresh produce
2. Local meats
3. Try different things - ie/Wild Boar Sausage
4. I love the atmosphere
4. Great food. I know this is kind of a redo of the top two, but I love it.
5. Great lunch. Not the same as the previous. The previous refers to food that you bring home.
6. Street musicians. I love listening to the different musicians playing there :)
7. Conscious about the food - by this I mean, vendors know exactly what is in their food - and what isn't!
8. Supporting the local economy
9. Food tastes better then that which you buy in the supermarket
10. Scheduled entertainment :)

Aaand we're back on schedule! Sorry for the last minute rush of pins, but I was really getting tired of being behind schedule, and really, how hard is it to find an amazing pin?
